NOTEBOOM FINE
Posted On May. 23, 2008)
Don't ya' love controversy? Word is that Jay Noteboom got a $100 fine letter from the money suckers at IMCA for actually having the balls to stand up for what's right when somebody tried to take a win away from him because they didn't know proper race procedure, or didn't care. This all came from a last turn, last lap crash in the May 17th Modified feature at Park Jefferson which happened after Noteboom had taken the checkered flag. Hell, even if he hadn't taken the checkered flag, the race was over once the field had taken the white flag. A crash at that point would call for a yellow/checkers finish with scoring reverted to the way they crossed under the white flag, with the exception of those involved in the caution, who would be scored at the tail of the lead lap in the order they crossed under the white flag. Once the leader took the checkered flag, the race was definitely over, unless over a hundred years of racing procedure has been wrong. So Noteboom was completely correct to protest rolling things back to a green, white, checkered finish. I assure you any fine was the track's call since Brett Root has alot more interesting things to do than worry about a procedure call during a Modified feature race in Podunk, South Dakota. Don't blame the flagman, he only waves the flags he is told to wave, he doesn't make the calls.
