TRACK CONDITIONS AT RACEWAY PARK
Posted On Jun. 04, 2008)
I had originally posted this blog on Tuesday, but due to some fallout from the track owners, I removed it. Now that the cat is out of the bag, and many people have said that I shouldn't have removed it, here it is in its original form.
I had to get on here and say something about the track conditions at Raceway Park. To say that the condition of the track is shit is NOT an overstatement. A couple of times early on, the weather was a big part of the blame, but the last couple of races show that the track prep needs to be done differently. First of all a Grader, not a Box Scraper, needs to be used to form and move dirt in the corners. Two feet of dirt needs taken from the outside of turns 1 and 3 and put on the exit of 2 and 4. I also don't know why the tires in turns 1 and 2 aren't moved out at least 4-5 feet to keep people from racing the infield flat surface. This is a banked track, not a flat track. Once the track is formed, pack it down hard and leave it alone during the early week. If it gets dug up and rained on, it will never firm up. I know I'm just the announcer, but I've been there for 18 years and next to Greg Golden or Denny Moore, I know as much about that track surface as anyone. Drivers will not just keep bolting in new transmissions, trailing arms, and shocks. Shitty Track=No Cars=No Races. Fix it now, fix it right, and the track should be good for the rest of the season.
