Racing resumed on Wednesday night at Buena Vista Raceway in Alta. The track was once again in wonderful shape, and provided for three, four and at times five-wide racing.
The Modifieds were once again the main event, and the action did not disappoint.
Early on, Justin Sackett of Schaller held the lead, but spun while hold that position. While he was stalled in the middle of the turn, Stacey Mills of Webb, as well as Joel Ziegman collided with Sacketts car, taking each of them out of the race.
When racing resumed, Clay Christensen assumed the lead, with Brad Williams of Lytton close behind.
While Christensen and Williams raced for the lead, Nick Deal of Walnut and Jim Thies of Mapleton raced hard for third.
After a few laps of close racing, Williams took the lead, and opened the door for Deal and Thies to follow. With Christensen sliding to fourth, Williams had to fend off advances from Deal and Thies.
Deal challenged Williams for the lead throughout the middle of the race, but couldnt seem to get past the 22BW car. After experimenting with racing lines for a few laps, Deal found one that worked, and moved past Williams and into the lead with just five laps remaining.
After Deal had taken the lead, Williams had to keep on his toes, as Jim Thies looked to move to second.
Deal held on over the final 5 laps and cruised to the win. Williams and Thies raced hard over the final laps, with Williams holding on for second and points leader Thies coming in third.
The Stock Car feature started wildly, with four-wide racing right from the green flag.
David Smith of Lake City, along with Randy Lawry of Cherokee and Trent Murphy of Jefferson all raced for the early lead.
After close racing over the first few laps, the top three settled in with Smith holding the lead, Lawry second, and Murphy holding third. Just as they were getting separated, a caution flag bunched them back up.
On the restart, David Smith took off to a big lead, while his brother and points leader Dustin Smith made his way to third, moving past Randy Lawry.
Dustin didnt stay put for long, as he made a move for the second position just two laps later.
After a quick caution in the closing stages of the race, the third Smith brother in the race made his presence known.
Donovan Smith, who had to work his way from a rear starting position, moved into the third position with three laps left.
While his brothers moved up through the field, David was building a sizeable leadone that no one would be able to overcome. David cruised to the win, with brothers Dustin and Donovan following in second and third respectively.
The Sport Mod feature also started off with four wide racing right from the green flag.
Luke Wanninger of Jefferson, who is not only the BVR points leader, but national points leader, started second to last and was in the lead by lap 2.
He was followed by Brett Meyer of Lytton, who raced into second position also from deep in the field.
Wanninger made the drive to the lead look easy, and took off from Meyer, stretching out his lead to a straightaways length.
His lead was never in doubt, and he cruised to the win. Meyer held strong over the entire race in second, and finished in the runner-up position. Mick King of Odebolt worked his way through the field over the course of the race, and moved into third in the closing laps, finishing close behind Meyer in third.
The Hobby Stock feature also saw one driver lead a lot of laps en route to a win.
John Cain of Homer, NE led early, with three and four-wide racing going on behind him. After a quick caution, Cain seemed to be poised to run away from the field again, but lost a motor on the front stretch.
This gave the lead to Tim Rupp, who would never give it up. Rupp led the remaining laps, with Michael Murphy running in second and three cars battling for third.
On the final lap, Rupp had no problems, picking up the win. Murphy crossed the line second, but it got interesting behind him.
A three car battle for third resulted in one driver getting pushed off track. Matt Mahoney of Pierson, Doug Smith of Lake City and John Briggs of Sutherman all were racing for the position over the closing laps.
Mahoney would go on to finish third, but Briggs ended up off track en route to the checkered flag.
The Sport Compact feature saw familiar face once again running up front.
Dan Rhiley of Bennington, NE took the lead early, but was dogged by Shawn Turner of Sioux City from the get-go. The two raced hard for the lead, while Daniel Smith of Lake City ran in third.
Turner held the lead for a few laps, as the two swapped spots a few times, but in the end, Rhiley was just too much for the competition, holding on for the win, with Turner second and Smith third.
