MID SEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS AT I-80 6-29-08

Mrs. Nebraska and Mrs. Bennington were busy presenting winners their trophies, as well as having our own Little Miss I-80 speedway parade. The Budweiser girls were out too, handing out koozies, and presenting trophies to the winners circle. Not to mention handing out a $3000 Nebraska Lottery Scratch Ticket.

I'm quickly becoming an addict of this raceway. Being a fan for years at Sunset Speedway, I had never been to the I-80 Speedway. (This is my second week at the track.) Ward Neesen confirmed my suspicions of becoming an addict when he told me "Oh yeah, you'll become addicted to this sport! It doesn't take long either." He continued with stories of other racers, and explained to me the differences between some of the series. Information that will help me describe to all what goes into this intense sport.

As Ward and I watched the A Feature of the Dodge late models, I had a chance to ask him a few questions...but nothing was as interesting after we saw the #00 car of Clint Benson hit the outside wall and roll. I asked how long it takes to fix a car after something that looks so destructive. "That car will probably become a salvage mission. Save the motor, save what you can because that whole frame looks bent and twisted."

Must have been because a team effort of the tow trucks that pulled the immobile #00 off to the pits. Thankfully, Benson walked away from his tumble.

It's such a fun atmosphere here at I-80 Speedway, and the excitement only builds for the next two weeks. Starting on Wednesday with the re-scheduled Alphabet Soup Race. Then the I-80 Speedway Fireworks show next Sunday will be a great family night. In only 13 more days, we have Carl Edwards Night. Hope to see everyone this Wednesday and Sunday.
