Raceway Park got a beautiful day to kick off their 2008 racing season on Sunday. The Hobby Stock division gave the crowd their scariest moment when Josh Ruschman got up on the back stretch wall sending him into a series of violent flips that ended with his car on its side on top of the car of Rusty Montange. Both drivers emerged unhurt, but Ruschman's car suffered major damage. When action resumed, Jake Walding took control out front to score the opening win over Matt Sheley, Andy Hoffman, and Tony Henderson.
Nick Lakes topped the B-Modified feature with strong runs in both his heat race and feature. The runner-up spot went to Les Lundquist after a race long battle with Jeremie Gibbs, while Greg Taylor rounded out the top four.
In Street Stock action Mitch Dowhower jumped out front early with Amanda Baum keeping the pressure on him throughout the race. Early season engine woes seemed to plague many cars and a smokey haze covered the track as Dowhower rolled on to the opening night victory over Baum, Tom McKenzie, and Zach Kappler.
The Hornet division saw Daniel Loggins pick up his first career win after taking the lead from Brad Tripp in a great early race battle. Loggins kept control of the lead until the checkers, while Stephanie Kiraly got by Tripp for the runner-up spot. The top four was rounded out by Donna Roupe who was making her first start on the highbanks.
Randy Cass took the win in the Pro Hornet feature with Matt Baker keeping pace to take second. Jeff Goodier and Tim Cass rounded out the top four.
Mike Benson topped Rusty Glossy in the Late Model exhibition.
Action continues each Sunday at 6:30
