After weeks of heated points battle at the BVR speed plant it was time to crown Champions at the Beaver
Tom and Bill Fitzpatrick were on hand to pace the cars on the parade lap and congratulate the winners with a trophy and gift pack in Budweiser Victory Lane.
The Storm Lake Honda and Arctic Cat IMCA Sport Compacts would see Shawn Turner take the lead in the early stages of the feature. Turner almost let the win and championship slip through his fingers as he bobbled off of turn 2 and was sideways in front of Mark Lindgren. Lindgren was able to make the pass for the lead and pick up his first win of the season. Shawn Turner was crowned the points champion.
The Rasmussen Ford IMCA Hobby Stock A Main was full of drama and excitement. Matt Mahoney was runner up in points going into the feature. Devin Smith had a 10 point lead on the Pierson, Iowa racer. At the drop of Alan Wolfgrams green flag, Mahoney would take the lead. Late in the race Devin Smith would make a move for the lead and would go on to win. That was the Excitement, but the Drama would come after post race Tech Inspection. Officials found Devin Smiths car illegal during inspection. This would give the win to Doug Smith, and the points title to Matt Mahoney,
All Luke Wanninger had to do was start the Storm Late Truck And Trailer IMCA SportMod Feature to clinch the championship in his rookie season. Wanninger went to the green flag and never looked back, leading all 18 laps.
Fitzpatrick Auto Center IMCA Modifieds saw Jim Thies of Mapleton wrapping up the championship by just showing up for the night. Thies would start alongside Randy Brands. Early in the race Jim Thies took the lead. He would have troubles and that would give the lead to Randy Brands. At the halfway point the Real Deal Nick Deal would take the lead from Brands. Deal would go on to win the championship night feature, but it is The Mapleton Mover Jim Thies the 2008 champion.
Final event saw the Scooters Bar and Grille IMCA Stock Car come to the speedway. David Smith would go to the rear of the pack to try and double the money if he could win from the rear. At the drop of the green Donovan and Dustin Smith would go to battle with Brian Blessington and Jason Mickelson. In the end it was Dustin Smith winning the feature. He would also be the 2008 track champion
On behalf of the entire staff of Wide Open Promotions and the Buena Vista Raceway, we want to thank all the racers, crews, sponsors, fans and everyone who helped making racing happen in 2008.
