RAIN WINS AT I-80 SPEEDWAY 5-10-09

(05/12/09)
Terry Cleveland of Lincoln won the NASCAR Pro Am A Feature, Jake McCloud of Carter Lake won the IMCA Sport Compact A Feature, but rain won out the rest of Mothers Day evening at I-80 Speedway.

On again-off-again sprinkles that persisted from hot laps on, finally gave way to a light shower at the end of the NASCAR Late Model B Feature, forcing I-80 officials to postpone the IMCA Sport Mod, IMCA Modified, and NASCAR Late Model A Features until next Sunday, 5-17-09.

The .4 mi high banked oval was again prepared nearly perfectly. Early tacky surface quickly turned dry, but was smooth top to bottom.

Pro Am Heats were won by Shawn Bulin (# 36) and Marty Steinbach (# 5), both of whom were involved in later A Feature incidents.

IMCA Sport Mod Heats went to Robert Tippery (121), Glenwood IAs Jesse Sobbing (99), and previous I-80 A Feature winner Dennis Cook (45). Sobbing, a former Hobby Stock driver, has been successful enough in the early season to put him in contention for IMCA Rookie of the Year honors.
