Four cylinder engines come to life as the Shelby County Speedway Sport Compacts take the track under the setting sun at the Shelby County Speedway. Daniel Mefferd takes the early lead as the green flag drops. Several laps in Dustin Poldberg takes puts on a burst of speed and blasts past the top three cars to land the front spot with Tom Summerfield also making a move from the fifth spot. Summerfield challenges Carly Plowman and takes over the third spot as he sets his sights on Daniel Mefferd. Summerfield leapfrogs Mefferd with 3 to go and starts chasing down Poldberg who has a straight-away lead on him. Unable to make it happen in only two laps Summerfield settles for second, Carly Plowman in third, Daniel Mefferd in fourth. But news from the Dale Swanson Tech Area informed fans that Poldberg was disqualified due to mechanical alteration outside IMCA rules and Summerfield is back in Victory Lane for the first time in 2009!
As the green flag fell on the WAM Performance parts Hobby Stocks trouble on the front stretch had Charlie Bird spinning out in from near the front of the pack and Hobby Stock Drivers playing dodge ball to miss the pinball action. Daniel Smith lands on the front stretch just under the flag stand but is able to continue from the back of the pack and Jason Kohl headed into the pit area as a result to repair a flat tire. The pack is restacked and the green flag flies again as Chuck Madden drives out to the front and works to hold off the pack as Shannon Anderson makes a run for the front from the middle of the pack. A caution brings the race to a stop and the resulting realignment strips Madden of his lead and puts Andersen just behind him on the inside. Anderson wastes no time driving out past Madden. Another caution pits Madden against Madden in the two and three spots; Corey wins that battle and finishes second behind Andersen with Jeff Hansen in third, Kenny Hansen in fourth.
Jared Hansen of Audubon lead the pack out onto the track for the KNOD Sport Mod feature, and powers out to a commanding lead as the green flag fell. Racing hard and fast the pack behind him filled with cars attempting to bump and run their way to the front to challenge. Several cars with trouble on both ends of the track brings out a caution and cranks Hansen back into striking range for the pack. Unable to catch him again on the restart, the pack continues banging doors until Joe Mefferd goes around from near the front in turns three and four and collects a parking lot of Sport Mods on the west end of Shelby County Speedway. With eleven laps still to go, Hansen, in his Nielsen Automotive sponsored machine, leads the pack out on another restart and yet another caution flies as Bill Hargens finds himself in trouble on the high side of turn two and Kyle Nordquist goes around on the low side. Another restart and Jesse Sobbing sitting behind Hansen makes an quick run to get around him but is unable to make it happen. Dave Hulsebus of Tennant strikes right back to snag the second spot as Robert Tippery moves into position to challenge Sobbing for third. As the pack spreads out, the cautions subside and Jared Hansen, hungry for his first trip to OReilly Victory Lane at SCS continues to dominate. He takes the checkered flag in the Hansen Trucking number 23, with Dave Hulsebus in second, Jesse Sobbing in third, Robert Tippery in fourth.
The Pizza Ranch Stock Cars took the dirt track by storm, kicking up a little dust as they kept the racing tight and competitive. Mike Harris works his way to the front and looks to keep it as Bill Osbahr challenges. Osbahr finds good bite coming out of turn two and slingshots out around Harris to take the lead and powers out in front to build a good pocket of empty track behind him. Jeremy Gettler pushes up to challenge as Harris looses momentum to drop several spots giving the second place spot to Gettler, third to Brian Blessington with SCS points leader Dustin Smith hot on his tail. Smith takes the spot around Blessington and reels in Gettler as they all chase Osbahr. Racing in the top five gets heated as Knop puts his hat in the ring and powers into the middle of Gettler, Smith and Blessington. The drivers race door to door with Osbahr taking the checkered flag and the trip to OReilly Victory Lane, Keith Knop in second, Jeremy Gettler in third, Dustin Smith in fourth.
Fans could feel the thunder on the speedway as the Budweiser Late Models powered onto the Shelby County Speedway. As the cars came up to speed under the green flag Craig Robert s number 23 r car and its front left tire parted ways bringing out the caution. Robert s looking to get the tire back in place before the restart but misses the call and moves out on the track as traffic competed lap number 2. Another caution brings the pack in together, but Roberts who looked lightning fast in the heats had a lot of ground to go with two laps to make up. Cars were realigned with Don Beckstrom out front, Randy Faux and Don Smith Jr. right behind him. Josh Most with a burst of power moves from the 7th position to second after the restart and works to chase down Beckstrom. Jay Stewart slides over and takes out the rear of Mosts vehicle. The resulting spin pushes Kyle Wahlert running in fourth into the front stretch wall. Caution comes out on the speedway as Josh Most heads to back stretch pit road and Wahlert heads to pit road on the front stretch. The restart plants Sorensen in the second spot holding onto Beckstroms rear push bar as the two begin to move away from the pack. Beckstrom holds his lead as the pack spreads out around the track. Sorensen takes a big bite out of the track with two to go and powers past Beckstrom with one to go and holds the lead to take the checkered flag. Beckstrom settles for second, Vance Tonak finishes third and Vic Lovejoy finishes fourth.
An immediate caution as the point car spins around under the first green flag in the Pitts Chiropractic Modifieds had the race looking like a repeat of last weeks caution plagued race, but drivers were able to battle head to head on the restart and put three laps under their belt before the next caution. Nick Deal used that time wisely to work into the second spot just behind Red Monson. The restart has last weeks winner, Jeff Andersen spinning as he passes the cone. Jeff Stephens uses the caution to head to pit road for a tire change and heads to the back of the pack for the restart. The cautions reign again for the Pitts Chiropractic Modifieds and the time limit warning goes out to the drivers with only four laps completed. Red Monson holds his lead on the restart at seventeen year old Nick Deal challenges for the right to lead. Deal cant make it happen and settles in for the long chase. Modified drivers stay serious about the race and keep it clean and green as the laps tick by. Deal challenges Monson again and gets an edge on him from the inside. Monson stays after him working the high side, losing ground in turns one and two but gaining in three and four. With five laps to go, Monson flirts with the lead in the front stretch but loses it to Deal in turn one. With three to go, Deal is able to work farther out ahead of Monson but still loses ground in the western half of the oval. Side by side with one to go, Deal and Monson bring the stands to their feet for the last lap run down but Deal keep the lead and finishes just ahead of Monson with Matt Bonine, Jeff Jones and Greg Cox rounding out the top five.
