The rains stayed away and the boys and girls would play as the racing heated up at Blackbird Bend Speedway. By the final fall of the checkers, features would go to Jeff Brunssen, Reece Coffee, Zach Bales, Randy Cass, and Jeff Girard and Tony Fetterman.
Jeff Brunssen has been hot as the sun in the Sportmod division at Blackbird Bend. As the feature began, Brunssen would attempt to make it a threepeat. Brunssen took advantage of a late race caution in the Sport Mod Division and vaulted to the outside from his fourth place starting position to take the lead and the eventual win. Mike Kramer of Walthill lead the race from the start until the caution on lap thirteen and finished second, followed by Nick Lakes, Ty Merrill and Brian Plantz.
Chris Abelson was another driver trying to make it three in a row in the Modified division. Abelson would be in a tight battle with Matt Bonine at the front of the field when trouble would strike as Bonine and Abelson would get together in turn one bringing out the caution. On the restart the battle would be between Bob Moore and Reese Coffee. Coffee would hold off Moore to pick up the win followed by Jesse Cowles, Clint Homan, and Bo Lundquist.
Zack Bales got a late start to the 2009 season in the Hobby Stock division, but that would not stop him from picking up the win on this night. Bales would hold off hard charging Noah Ludwig and Rick Monson. Bales took the lead on lap eight after leader Monson and Nelson Vollbrecht got together in corner four to bring out the caution. Following the top three were Jake McClure and last weeks feature winner Jeremie Brabec.
Veteran four cylinder driver Randy Cass of Onawa was once again in victory lane after winning the Cass Motor sponsored Lil Enjuns Division. Cass was able to pull away from Vince Trometer and Tim Cass for the win followed by Neal Reynolds and Don Tank. The two person cruisers were lacking in car count but the action was hot, side by side racing between Lucas Morton/Trent West and the combination of Jeff Girard/Tony Fetterman, who were the eventual winners.
The racing continues next Friday Night at Blackbird Bend Speedway. For more information on Blackbird Bend visit http://www.bbbspeedway.com
